Vinesh Phogat, the renowned wrestler and first-time political candidate, has successfully won the Julana seat in the Haryana Assembly elections. Running on a Congress ticket, she defeated her BJP rival, Yogesh Kumar, by a margin of over 6,000 votes.
This victory marks a significant debut in politics for Phogat, who has been a prominent voice in protests against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh over allegations of misconduct in the Wrestling Federation of India.
Phogat's win comes after she joined Congress in September 2024 and represents a major shift in a constituency that had been previously held by different parties, including the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
